Your Job Title Isn't Enough | Here's How Real English Speakers Describe Work

How to talk about your job in English goes way beyond knowing your title. In this episode, Olivia and William show A2-B1 learners how to describe responsibilities, share what they enjoy, and discuss career plans — through a natural conversation packed with ready-to-use patterns. You will hear four ways to introduce your job ("I'm a," "I work as," "I work in," "I work for") and when each one fits. Then Olivia and William tackle daily responsibilities with "I'm responsible for" and "I'm in charge of," and show how to talk about what you enjoy and find challenging without sounding negative. The episode also covers work schedule vocabulary — from "nine to five" to "freelance" and "work remotely" — plus how to express career goals at different levels of certainty. In this episode, you will learn: "I work for" (company) vs "I work at" (location) and when to use each "I'm responsible for" + -ing to describe tasks professionally "Wearing many hats" and "climbing the career ladder" — two key workplace idioms The difference between "job" (your position) and "work" (the activity or place) Three levels of certainty for future plans: "my goal is to" vs "I'm hoping to" vs "I'm thinking about" Now it's your turn! What do you do, and what's the best part of your job? Tell us in the comments. Start with: "I work as... and the best part is..."
