You got a new 29er BMX. What should you upgrade first?
I recently got a SE racing Big Ripper 29er BMX bike and like we all do, I wanted to make it a little more custom. I spoke with Shaun at Phoenix Bike Company about what I should upgrade first. I wanted an easier gearing so I replaced the 15tooth freewheel with a 17 and it feels amazing. Wheelies are easier to pull into and the new freewheel has more engagement points so it's super responsive. I also swapped the stock SE Big Honkin' Bars with some Broke Boyz BMX Jake Santos bars. The last upgrade I did was add a Dia-Compe boomerang 990 plate and some box brake levers to give me a front brake for flatland tricks. Leave a comment if you have questions. Thanks for hanging out. -Isaac
