External events are merely stimuli for what occurs internally. This is a reflection by Sadhguru that reminds us of the importance of our judgment about situations. Imagine you receive bad news, like the rise of the dollar. For different people, this same event can have different meanings. In the end, it's not about what happens, but about how we react. Stoicism teaches us that nothing is inherently good or bad; it is our interpretations that assign value to each situation. A classic example of this is the story of the farmer and his horse. When a horse mysteriously appeared on his farm, the neighbor said it was good luck. The farmer replied: "Maybe." Then, the horse ran away, taking others with it. The neighbor said it was bad luck. Again, the farmer replied, "Perhaps." Later, the horses returned with an even larger herd. The neighbor exclaimed it was good luck, but the farmer maintained the same answer. His son, while trying to tame one of the horses, fell and broke his leg. The neighbor lamented the bad luck, but when a war broke out and the farmer's son was spared because he was wounded, the perspective changed again. The lesson? Life is not about luck or bad luck, but about accepting events without judging them hastily. The Stoics call this acceptance "Amor Fati" – loving fate, embracing everything that happens without resistance. Marcus Aurelius said that everything happens at the right time, and Seneca stated that it is not the events that affect us, but rather the way we view them. In the end, if we accept challenges as opportunities for growth, we transform any obstacle into a path to evolution. That's why developing control over our emotions and judgments makes us more resilient and prepared to handle any situation. Vipassana, an ancient meditation technique taught by Buddha 2,500 years ago, illustrates this idea well. During this practice, we spend days in absolute silence, observing bodily sensations without reacting to them. This teaches us that all sensations – both pleasant and painful – are impermanent. When we understand this impermanence, we stop chasing pleasure and running away from pain, achieving a state of equanimity. This principle aligns with Stoicism: accepting the present as it is, without attachment or aversion. Mental training is not just philosophy – it generates real impact. Renowned companies, governments, and police forces already adopt mental control techniques to improve performance and reduce the impact of mental health in the corporate environment. Harvard studies show that a team with balanced mental health can increase its productivity by 37% without any structural changes. Another Deloitte study indicates that 31% of companies' payroll is wasted due to mental health issues. From 2025 onwards, new regulations will require companies to treat this issue seriously.
