They Wait Until It’s Empty… Then They Appear

Deep in the Colorado backcountry, one trail camera captured five months of wildlife activity in a quiet forest corridor. With no people around, the landscape revealed a constant stream of visitors: mountain lions, black bears, bobcats, mule deer, elk, rabbits, chipmunks, squirrels, and more. But the most unexpected moments came from a species I never expected to become the highlight of the footage. The male Dusky Grouse displayed an incredible courtship behavior, including deep humming calls, unusual movements, and repeated encounters that I had never witnessed before. This is a glimpse into what happens when a small piece of the Colorado wilderness is left undisturbed.
