Seeking Shelter in Simoom Sound from the Weather - Boating the BC Coast 2026
Check out the 2026 Boating Season Playlist - • Boating the BC Coast 2026 Well, guys, after our resupply trip over to Port McNeill, we came back and anchored at Madrona Island. We had one nice day there, but then the wind started to kick up with rain on the horizon for a day or so. So we decided to push a bit further north, deeper into the Broughtons, to a spot we like called Simoon Sound. It should give us better protection from the stronger winds, even if it might rain a little more up there. We puttered through Knight Inlet on a calm morning with beautiful scenery and sunshine breaking through. Up Knight Inlet at Glendale Cove is where we saw grizzly bears with cubs feeding last year. Now we're tucked into a great spot in O'Brien Bay at the end of Simoon Sound. The water is a beautiful green, and it's dead calm right now. We caught a couple of small kelp greenling right away, and I set the crab trap. We've seen black bears here before, and the views of Bald Mountain are fantastic, especially with the low clouds and fog during the rain. It poured all night and all day, so we stayed inside and made some baked spaghetti. The rain finally stopped the following morning around 10 a.m., and now we're expecting some winds. This protected anchorage with good holding is perfect for riding it out. We spotted some fancy yachts, including a huge one with a helicopter that might belong to the Bayliner founder. We'll hang out here for a few more days until things settle down. Previous Related Videos: Madrona Island Anchorage Video - • Madrona Island & Eden Pool Anchorages - Br...
