Matematiikan ihmeitä: Matriisilasku (CC ENG)

Matrix theory is a beautiful and useful area of mathematics. It is used in the solution of most engineering problems: for example, when calculating the forces a bridge has to withstand, in the lighting of a video game, in removing excessive things from photograph and in Google search. Students of mathematics begin studying matrix theory during their first year in university. In this video I give a simple example of how matrices can be used to solve a problem about spiders and lizards. We also see how the same problem can be solved with an equation pair familiar from high school. This video can be freely used everywhere. I am especially happy if it is used in schools. I am Samuli Siltanen, professor of industrial mathematics at the University of Helsinki. On my science channel I tell about the achievements of natural science and mathematics in a funny and understandable way.
