A javanese military parade by the BREGADA SINDUTOMO, also known as the Sindumartani Village Brigade. This bregada carries the symbols and banners of the village, which was founded in 1946. To commemorate the anniversary of this village, located on the slopes of Mount Merapi, the bregada carries heirlooms from three old subdistricts, which were the precursors to the formation of a new village named 'Sindumartani'. This javanese traditional military art, known as Bregada, has often been dominated by the older generation as guardians of the collective memory of the past. However, in Sindumartani, the baton of javanese military leadership is held by the village youth who are members of the Karang Taruna (Youth Organization) organization "KARYA REMAJA." The active involvement of Generation Z (Gen Z) and millennials has given rise to a sense of hope and a breath of fresh air, ensuring the continuity of traditions, ensuring they don't become mere displays of the past but transform into a vibrant and independent village identity. Young people are expected to wear more than just uniforms for photos, but to delve deeper into the meaning of every movement, color of clothing, and ancient Javanese language cue. The presence of Karang Taruna is expected to trigger a domino effect. When young people see their friends looking dashing leading the ranks, they will be drawn to participate. In their hands, the red warrior uniforms, hats, spears, and footsteps are tangible proof that the past and the future can walk hand in hand, marching in a single rhythm called "preservation." May this small step by the younger generation become a golden bregada that saves our ancestral heritage from extinction, so that the cultural identity of Mataram remains alive through the ages. Bregada, also known as bergodo or bregodo, is the term for a group or unit of traditional military troops from the Javanese palaces, particularly in Yogyakarta and Surakarta. The word "𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗱𝗮" itself is derived from English or Dutch, meaning "𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘥𝘦", meaning a group of military troops. Pre-independence, the bregada were the palace's armed forces, serving as security guards and safeguarding the sovereignty of the state/kingdom (royal army). They were trained and equipped with weapons such as spears, keris, and arrows. In Yogyakarta, since the palace declared its integration with the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) after independence in 1945, the bregada's primary function shifted from being a royal army to being a force that safeguards culture and tradition, as well as complementing traditional ceremonies.
