Join me on an epic adventure as we embark on a thrilling motorcycle roadtrip through the stunning landscapes of northern Portugal. Spanning over 700 kilometers, this journey takes us through some of the country's most breathtaking roads, charming towns, and picturesque dams. "Rota Norte" is a circular route through northern Portugal, which includes the the N103, N222, N221, N218 and the N13 national roads. We begin our journey in Braga, a historic city known for its well-preserved Roman ruins and stunning Baroque architecture. With a rich history dating back to 900 BC, Braga is one of the oldest cities in Portugal. As the capital of the sub-region of Cávado, Braga is a hub of culture and history, with a population of over 201,000 people. From Braga, we ride along the N103 national road, passing through the scenic Barragem da Venda Nova, a dam located between the freguesias of Ferral and Campos, in the districts of Vila Real and Braga. This dam, built in 1951, is 97 meters (318 feet) high and is fed by the river Rabagão. As we continue on the N103 national road, we pass through the picturesque Barragem do Alto Rabagão, also known as Barragem dos Pisões, located in the municipality of Montalegre, in the district of Vila Real. This dam, completed in 1964, is 94 meters (308 feet) high and has a capacity of 569 hm³ (137 million gallons). The dam's reservoir has an area of approximately 2,200 hectares (5,500 acres). Our first stop is the quaint town of Vilarinho De Negrões, situated in the northwestern part of the freguesia of Negrões. This charming town is surrounded by lush greenery and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. As we continue on the N103 national road, we pass through the charming towns of Chaves and Vinhais. Chaves is a city located in the sub-region of Alto Tâmega, with a population of over 37,000 people. Vinhais is a vila raiana located in the sub-region of Terras de Trás-os-Montes, with a population of over 7,700 people. Our destination is the historic city of Bragança, known for its medieval castle and picturesque streets. As the capital of the sub-region of Terras de Trás-os-Montes, Bragança is a hub of culture and history, with a population of over 34,500 people. From Bragança, we follow the N218 national road, which takes us through rolling hills and picturesque villages. Our next stop is the charming town of Miranda do Douro, a city raiana located in the sub-region of Terras de Trás-os-Montes, with a population of approximately 1,900 people. As we continue on the N211 national road, we pass through the scenic town of Barca d'Alva, a small village located in the Parque Natural do Douro Internacional, near the border with Spain. This village is situated in the district of Guarda and is known for its stunning views of the Douro River. Finally, we ride along the N211 national road, passing through the picturesque Douro Valley, and arrive in the charming town of Régua, a city located in the sub-region of Douro, with a population of over 14,500 people.
