The "Rest and Be Thankful" is an iconic Scottish mountain pass (803 feet above sea level) on the A83 in Argyll and Bute, between Arrochar and Inveraray. It gets its name from an inscribed stone left by soldiers in 1753 after completing the arduous climb of the original Old Military Road. History & Name Origin General Wade's Roads: The original Old Military Road was built between 1747 and 1749 by Major William Caulfeild (following General Wade's Highland road network) to navigate Jacobite uprisings.
