Homelessness on Oʻahu: Challenges, Solutions, and Hope

Across Oʻahu, more people are struggling with homelessness, rising rents, mental health challenges, addiction, and the high cost of living. Service providers are also seeing more kupuna, working individuals, and families falling into homelessness. These issues affect every community. Residents want safe, clean neighborhoods, while many people living on the streets are facing trauma, illness, financial hardship, or isolation. In this episode of Augie's Community Connection, Councilmember Augie Tulba talks story with two advocates for Oahu's homeless individuals. Roy Miyahira, Director of Homeless Solutions with the Department of Community Services for the City and County of Honolulu. And Acting Sergeant Roland Pagan with the Honolulu Police Department Community Policing Team. They discuss what the City is doing, how outreach and law enforcement work together, and what solutions may help people move from crisis toward stability.
