Dilution plays a crucial role in reducing pollutant concentrations, facilitated by the density difference between wastewater and seawater and the energy of the discharge. Furthermore, pollutants are processed through initial and secondary dilution, along with self-cleaning by the sea, thanks to physical, chemical, and biological processes that degrade these pollutants. Finally, the video highlights the importance of designing outfalls that prevent seabed erosion, ensure uniform distribution of the discharge, and maintain self-cleaning rates to avoid sedimentation and structural damage.
