He explains that it is a structure designed to transport treated or partially treated wastewater from the coast to a point in the sea at a suitable distance and depth, where the discharge can be diluted without causing harm to human health or the environment. A submarine outfall is divided into three main parts: the forebay, the underwater pipeline section, and the diffuser section, which has nozzles to maximize dilution of the discharge into the sea. Dilution plays a crucial role in reducing pollutant concentrations, facilitated by the density difference between wastewater and seawater and the energy of the discharge. Furthermore, pollutants are processed through initial and secondary dilution, along with self-cleaning by the sea, thanks to physical, chemical, and biological processes that degrade these pollutants. Finally, the video highlights the importance of designing outfalls that prevent seabed erosion, ensure uniform distribution of the discharge, and maintain self-cleaning rates to avoid sedimentation and structural damage.
