After leaving a local bar, I was walking back to my cheap hotel when two middle-aged women drinking wine outside a shop suddenly spoke to me in Japanese. They invited me inside. What I thought was a simple bar turned out to be a Japanese-style karaoke lounge filled with elegantly dressed women, music, drinks, and a completely unexpected atmosphere. One of the managers sat beside me, sang songs with me, and eventually even asked for my phone number. The next morning, reality returned. The hotel room itself was disappointing… but strangely, the dim sum restaurant inside the hotel served some of the best food I had during my stay in Thailand.
