It's incredibly convenient, just a comfortable 3-hour bus ride from Bangkok (some even have massagers!). This makes Korat a perfect, culturally enriching stop on your route, especially if you're heading towards Laos. We incorporated this stop into our journey, and were amazed by the diversity of experiences, from ancient ruins to modern art temples and poignant historical sites. Our unforgettable 48 hours kicked off with a deep dive into history at the awe-inspiring Phimai Historical Park. This ancient Khmer temple complex is a true architectural masterpiece, boasting intricate carvings and towering structures that undeniably evoke comparisons to Angkor Wat. We spent hours immersed in its incredible history, exploring every nook and cranny of this UNESCO World Heritage site. If you love history or breathtaking ancient architecture, Phimai Historical Park is an absolute must-visit that will leave you speechless and deeply inspired. From ancient history, we transitioned to the more recent, yet equally impactful, Thung Samrit Memorial. This significant battlefield provided a poignant and reflective journey through a crucial chapter of Thailand's past - offering a powerful experience we truly wish more tourists knew about, providing a deeper understanding of Thailand's rich and complex heritage. And now, our favourite temple - Wat Ban Rai Luang Phor Koon, known as "The Elephant Temple," is simply insane – in the most incredible way. This mesmerizing temple is a colossal, vibrant mosaic art piece, featuring an incredible, multi-story elephant structure you can walk inside! We had this sprawling, unbelievably intricate complex virtually to ourselves, spending hours getting wonderfully lost. It's truly one-of-a-kind and unlike any other temple you'll see in Thailand – a powerful testament to artistry, devotion, and boundless creativity. This temple alone makes a trip to Nakhon Ratchasima worthwhile! To truly immerse ourselves in the local rhythm, we rented a motorbike. Whizzing through the city streets gave us an incredible sense of freedom, allowing us to discover more charming temples dotting Nakhon Ratchasima's city centre. One evening, we stumbled upon something wonderfully quirky – a unique park filled with glowing neon animals, cartoons, and hot air balloons! We still don't know its purpose, but it was a joyful, memorable adventure, showing the delightful surprises this incredible city holds. Throughout our amazing two days, we found the perfect sanctuary at the wonderful and incredibly affordable Baan Kuer. We honestly can't recommend it enough for a comfortable, clean, and supremely budget-friendly stay that enhances your travel experience in Nakhon.
