Traditional arts and crafts of Bhutan: carving, sculpting, carpenting... | BHUTAN
In Bhutan, there are 13 traditional arts and crafts, called zorig chusum. The Government of Bhutan established the Institute of Zorig Chosum in Thimphu as the leading institution of traditional arts and crafts with the express purpose of maintaining Bhutan's rich culture and tradition and instructing students in all traditional art forms. Like tibetan art, buthanese art is based upon Vajrayana Buddhism. The zorig chusum are the following: Shingzo: carpentry. Dozo: masonry. Parzo: carving. Lhazo: painting. Jinzo: sculpting. Lugzo: bronze-casting. Garzo: blacksmithing. Troeko: ornament making. Tsharzo: cane and bamboo weaving. Thagzo: weaving. Tshemzo: tailoring, embroidery and appliqué. Shagzo: woodturning. Dezo: paper-making.
