This is one of the most high-profile rolling stock decisions in recent months for Polish railways – the cars were delivered to Poland and entered service in 2026 after inspections and preparation for operation. PKP Intercity attributes this move to the growing demand for long-distance transport and the need to rapidly increase the number of seats on trains. The new trains ordered from Polish manufacturers will not be available for several years, so the company is using used rolling stock from abroad, which can be put into service more quickly. The purchased cars are from DB Fernverkehr – some in first- and second-class standard, which previously operated in Germany at speeds of up to 200 km/h. After modernization and inspections, they are to be incorporated into PKP Intercity trains serving domestic and international routes.
