This spectacular route runs from Poncebos (Asturias) to Caín (Castilla y León), right through the heart of the Picos de Europa National Park. The Ruta del Cares is approximately 12 kilometers long (one way) and follows a narrow path carved into the steep cliffs above the Cares River. Along the way, you'll look out over deep gorges, rugged peaks, and breathtaking vistas. This trail was originally built in the 1940s to maintain the canal that carries river water to a hydroelectric power plant—today it's one of the most popular hikes in northern Spain. We start our hike in Poncebos, known for the village of Bulnes, and follow the path towards Caín. Along the way, we'll share our experience, provide practical tips, and show you why this route is also known as the "Garganta Divina" (the divine gorge). The Picos de Europa surprise us once again with their rugged beauty, diverse landscapes, and impressive tranquility.
