What to Wear to your FIRST Ballet Class | Adult Ballet Beginners

What should you wear to your first ballet class? You've taken the leap and signed up for ballet, but now you may be wondering what exactly you're supposed to wear. The good news is that you don't need to rush out and buy a closet full of dancewear before your first class. For adults just getting started, I typically recommend comfortable athletic wear such as leggings and a fitted top. The most important thing is that your instructor can see your alignment and how your body is moving. I also suggest pulling your hair back and out of your face so you can focus on dancing and it doesn't get in your way. That being said, one of my favorite moments in the Intro to Ballet series is around weeks three and four when students start showing up in ballet attire. Something shifts. They begin to feel like dancers, and there is often a new level of confidence and excitement that comes with embracing the ballet experience. In this video, I break down the different pieces of ballet attire, from ballet slippers and tights to leotards and skirts. I also share some tips and tricks to help you choose what is right for you and feel more comfortable walking into class. And my biggest piece of advice? Don't be afraid of the dancewear. Embrace it!
