Rassismus in der Schule: Was Lehrer:innen anrichten können | Team UPWARD
If you encounter #racism at your own #school, support is often lacking. Even teachers express themselves inappropriately. Statistics on racist incidents? None. Because documenting them is not mandatory in #Germany. And where there are no figures, there is officially no problem. In a representative survey by the Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency, more than 30 percent of respondents reported experiencing discrimination in the past two years. Almost one in four of them also experienced it in the field of education. Educational equity and equal opportunities are recurring topics – including in politics. In this video, we spoke with two students from Berlin and Potsdam. For them, racist #discrimination is not uncommon. We asked them where more attention, education, and support are needed. Even in training, there are deficits in the necessary awareness-raising, a teacher tells us. We also talk to an educational researcher: Karim Fereidooni advises the German government and has been researching the topic of "racism and schools" for years. We want to know from him: What is the particular danger when even teachers discriminate? And how do you perceive this? How much does racism shape everyday life in German schools? Have you personally experienced being treated differently by teachers because of your religion, your language, or your appearance? What kind of support would you have liked?
