SOLD! - People don't believe me when I say "they go fast!" - but they do! We found a new home for this E-Type - BUT - we do seem to keep finding them, so keep your eyes on this space! Contact us directly using the information below to be added to the list of people who receive early notification for future E-Type projects. Now THIS is a GREAT E-Type project! This 1968 E-Type Open Two-Seater project is available FOR SALE! The car is complete and fully numbers-matching. It was built in May of 1968, and delivered in Red with a Black interior. The odometer shows only 28,646 miles, and ALL components are original to this car and in very good restorable condition. Interested parties should contact Chuck Hadley directly by phone in the US - (443) 907-2287, by WhatsApp outside the US using the same number - (443) 907-2287, or by email - [email protected] Overview - If you've been following our video on bringing back the all-original red 1966 roadster, and thought, "I'd really like to find a project like that" - THIS IS IT! This E-Type has been sleeping inside of a dry garage since it was taken off the road 35 years ago in 1990 - we suspect for a problem with the clutch hydraulics. Watch the video - you'll hear me describe the car's condition and how it is just on the edge between a solid restoration candidate - OR - a survivor that can be coaxed back to life with mechanical repairs and some sympathetic cosmetic restoration. Provenance - Full matching numbers car - EVERYTHING is original to this car, and all visible numbers have been checked. Color Scheme - This is an original Red roadster with a black leather interior. Driveability - By the time this E-Type was built in May of 1968, ALL of the kinks in the E-Type design were worked out. This car has the larger displacement 4.2-liter engine, with the reliable alternator charging system. The gearbox is the later full-synchro 4-speed. The braking system has the remote power booster, and the cooling system is the later twin-fan, down-flow radiator which works MUCH better! Even the seats are the more comfortable 4.2 design - that fold forward AND recline a bit as well - allowing more room and comfort for taller drivers. History - This E-Type was purchased by the previous owner in 1972, and enjoyed by him as a second car over the next 18 years. It was then taken off the road and stored indoors in 1990 - possibly due to a failed clutch master cylinder, as a new unit was sitting in an old dusty box right next to the car. Then life got in the way, and the car just sat in a dry garage under their home for the past 35 years. Mechanical Condition - The overall condition of the components is very good. The engine does spin free - and this was a running car when it was taken off the road in 1990. The gearbox also spins freely and shifts into all gears. The car rolls freely with no seized brake calipers, and on and on it goes! Cosmetic Condition - Components like the gauges, dash panels, radio console, etc. are in very good condition and many don't even need to be restored - just cleaned! The interior itself is still in good condition, and COULD be carefully cleaned and "restored" and then re-used for an interior with a nice original patina. The original leather seats are not torn, and only have some minimal fraying of the sewn seams and some cracking in the driver's seat - these seats could be restored with very good results! The chrome is all present and in very good or excellent original condition, and the oxidation on it can be cleaned off with minimal pitting remaining. The side windows and windshield are all original Triplex clear glass in excellent condition with no visible scratches at all. Body Condition - Overall, the body shell and bonnet of this E-Type is MUCH better than a typical roadster. The entire tail section is dent and rust free, including the boot floor which is amazing! There is rust in the rear outer sections of the floor on both sides, where the radius cups attach. Most of the issues on the RH side seem to be the result of a poor past repair in that lower section behind the door - it looks like there was a small collision there in the past but the damage is very localized. This needs to be cut out and repaired, but I believe this can be done with local repairs without disassembly of the entire car. The bonnet has had some dents and dings in the past that have been repaired and filled, but nothing appears to have been catastrophic damage, and the overall shape is excellent. Series 1 Conversion - Many customers choose to "backdate" Series 1.5 E-Types to Series 1 specs... The only major differences between this car and a 1967 Series 1 roadster are the open headlamps, 2 vs. 3 carburetors, cam cover design, and the interior rocker switches - plus a few other interior details. We can help you convert some or even all of these details back to Series 1 specs if you like.
