Yunanlar Osmanlı İmparatorluğundan Nasıl Ayrıldı?
One of the breaking points in Ottoman and Turkish history; The Morea Revolt of 1821-1827 During the reign of Sultan Mahmud II, the state was experiencing nationalist movements that intensified under the influence of the French Revolution. The Serbs rebelled first in the early 1800s. The Greeks would follow suit in the early 1820s. Kavalalı Mehmet Ali Pasha was steadily increasing his prestige and power in Egypt. He suppressed the Wahhabi Revolt and returned the Holy Land to the sultan. However, the pasha's rise in Egypt was not welcomed by Sultan Mahmud II, who sought to rid the state of the notables and centralize them. An undercurrent of friction began between the two sides. However, Kavalalı was not the only notable the state was struggling with. There was also a very powerful local sultan in the Balkans: Tepedelenli Ali Pasha. Tepedelenli, who began his political power as governor of Ioannina, quickly spread his influence throughout the Balkans. He became so close that he maintained close ties with European powers. He held independent meetings, sometimes acting independently of the Ottoman Empire. Mahmud II would engage in a struggle with Tepedelenli Ali Pasha, just as he had with Kavalalı. But the timing was incredibly poor. The rise of Hellenism among the Greeks was about to trigger a rebellion against centuries of Turkish rule. The work of the Filiki Eterya organization had almost come to an end. Indeed, while the struggle with Tepedelenli continued, first Moldavia, and a few weeks later, the Morea, began to ignite with the fire of rebellion. This rebellion, which would last for years, would culminate in the establishment of the Greek state. Leaving aside Greek independence, the political struggle between Kavalalı Mehmet Ali Pasha and Mahmud II would now escalate into a military one, with the Governor of Egypt becoming Egypt's rebel. The state would suffer the greatest blow from the Kavalalıs. This video is a combination of the "Greek Revolt" sections of the documentary series about Kavalalı Mehmet Ali Pasha.
