The British success in this battle against an enemy force twice their size marked a turning point in the campaign. The battle demonstrated the UK's increasingly unquestionable military superiority, quelling concerns about possible defeat, and led to the release of 112 civilians who had been held hostage by Argentine forces for nearly a month.
