Avoid These Short Films Cliches or Forget about Film Festival Circuit
After watching hundreds of shorts, I've gathered Ten Short Film Cliches that hardly exist today. Being a filmmaker is a tough job; sometimes, we want to go along with the first ideas that come to our mind. But the reality is that if we want to be more successful in the film festival circuit and get into this 1-3% selected films - we need to be different. And using cliches in storytelling, cinematography, or directing doesn't help much with it. I want to highlight again, that it is not FORBIDDEN to use cliches, it's just better to avoid IF POSSIBLE. If your story NEEDS it - of course, use it, maybe with adding some spice up and a bit in a different way than others - then it will work. 00:00 Introduction 00:57 #1 Morning Routine 01:25 #2 Mirrors 01:49 #3 Vilian smokes 02:23 #4 Nonsense dialogues 02:56 #5 Cheap VFX 03:28 #6 Metaphors 03:46 #7 Zombies 04:06 #8 News Exposition 04:29 #9 VO philosophy 04:53 #10 Trunk shot 05:11 #11 It was a Dream or Film Set
