'in-between' — A Coming-of-Age Short Film | Lilli Skye

I created and star in "in-between" — a coming-of-age short film set to Debussy's "Clair de Lune," about a girl caught in the space between childhood and growing up. There's almost no dialogue. The whole story is told without words — through looks, movement, and small moments — so the music and the images carry everything. One minute I'm goofy and playful; the next I'm quiet and a little more grown. Living in that "in-between" is what the film is all about. We shot it on location in a busy outdoor shopping esplanade — real traffic at the roundabout, real people walking past, and the evening light shifting while we filmed. A few small details hold the bigger meaning: a caramel apple slowly eaten down to its core, and a mirrored mother-and-daughter wardrobe moment, revealed backstage. I made "in-between" as both the filmmaker and the girl on screen, because I wanted to tell a real, emotional story using almost no words — just expression, music, and feeling. "Clair de Lune" felt perfect for that: gentle, a little nostalgic, and somewhere between light and serious — exactly like growing up. I'm Lilli Skye, a young actor and performer based in California. Thank you so much for watching. If you love coming-of-age stories, quiet and artful short films, or Debussy's "Clair de Lune," I hope this one stays with you.
