The Narrows Zion National Park

While the weather was still warm (mid to high 80s) we decided to try the Narrows. The Narrows is an iconic trail in Zion National Park. During the busy months you ride the shuttle from the Visitor Center all the way to the end. Here there is about a mile long paved trail that leads you into (up) the canyon along the river. When you get to the 'end' of the paved trail it opens up a bit wider and flat, this is where 'The Narrows' trail officially begins. We've watched visitors from all over, every time of the year, with their big walking sticks, waders, funny looking red or yellow (rented) boots and dry bags venture down into the water. Now it was our turn. We decided not to get the funny boots, we have our own sticks, and put any important things into smaller dry bags inside our backpacks. We walked up the river we are guessing a little over a mile. It's tough to know exactly due to the GPSs losing signal because of the deep canyon. The water was cold and cloudy (from all the people). The river bottom was mostly bowling ball size boulders and they are slippery. The views - incredible. A rough timeline of our trip: Left the house 12:30pm Found a parking spot (finally) and boarded the Shuttle 2:00pm Arrived at the Riverwalk Trail Head 2:40pm Began our Narrows hike 3:00pm Turned around to head back 4:30pm Out of the River 5:20pm Our Assessment: Shoes worked great! Sticks were perfect! Socks of wool were good too! Satchels on our back got wet (put more things in dry bags). Snacks are hard to eat when walking Shades would be better if polarized (Jeremy's are, mine aren't) Sun hats worked well The one thing to fix for next time, video placement.
