The security service detained an enemy agent who participated in the preparation of the Russian missile and drone attack on the Dnieper on the night of June 2. He turned out to be a former military man from the Krynychansky district of the region with a Russian passport recruited by the enemy. As the investigation found out, the person in question was monitoring the time and directions of flights of fighter jets and attack helicopters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which protect the skies of the front-line region. In this way, the Russians were looking for “weak points” in the air defense of the region and hoped to calculate the locations of the Ukrainian aviation bases in order to deliver a combined strike there. To collect intelligence, the attacker went to the area during air alerts to record the coordinates and time intervals of the departures of aircraft and helicopters of the Defense Forces. According to the case materials, Russian special services recruited the suspect to cooperate through the Telegram channel, where he was looking for ways to get to the Russians. During the reconnaissance missions, the attacker traveled around the area in his own car, constantly changing locations to collect intelligence information. SBU officers detained the agent at his place of residence. During the search, a Russian passport and a smartphone with evidence of working for the enemy were found on him. Security Service investigators informed the agent of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law). The attacker is in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property. The complex measures were carried out by officers of the Main Directorate of the SBU in the Dnipropetrovsk region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
