On June 30th, Mito Police Station and AEON Mall Mito Uchihara (Uchihara-cho 2-chome, Mito City) conducted a crime prevention drill on the first floor of the mall, simulating the appearance of a suspicious person armed with a knife. Approximately 40 employees and police officers practiced initial response procedures, including calling 110 and guiding shoppers to safety. The drill involved a police officer brandishing a knife and stabbing shoppers while yelling at a suspicious person. Employees surrounded the suspicious person with a samurai forearm and a shopping cart, and police officers arrived after receiving the call and subdued him. After the crime prevention drill, self-defense training was also conducted for female employees. Employees were divided into pairs and practiced self-defense techniques based on several scenarios, such as "if a suspicious person grabs both of my hands." After completing the training, employee Noriko Fujieda (47), a resident employee, said, "Learning self-defense techniques gave me peace of mind, knowing there are things I can do myself." Police Chief Yoichi Ochiai said, "We hope that you will continue to work with the police station to train and ensure the safety of our stores."
