Following an incident in July of last year in which six people were attacked with a knife in the central area of ​​Mito City, a suspicious person response drill was held yesterday at the Mito Station Building Excel Main Building in Miyacho 1-chome, Mito City. Employees of the building management company, security guards, and Mito police officers participated, reviewing procedures for police response when a suspicious person is spotted and how to use a sasumata (a type of pole weapon) (see photo). The drill simulated a scenario where a suspicious person armed with a knife was loitering within the building. When an employee spotted the suspicious person, they maintained a safe distance, observed their movements, and relayed details such as their build and clothing to security guards by telephone. Security guards then surrounded the suspicious person with sasumata, and police officers who arrived on the scene apprehended them.
