The equation is incredibly simple, and the data you need to put into it is all readily available. But if you haven't been shown an example of where to find the numbers in the datasheets and how to plug the equation it may seem daunting. This video quickly clears up some of the "voodoo" behind calculating heat in your electronic designs, taking into account the component itself, heat sinks, thermal compounds and other point-of-contact aids, and ambient air temperature.
