However, Spurgeon, after having preached to thousands in a temporary structure, narrowly escaped with his life! Hundreds may have died, as he explains at the beginning. This led the preacher to consider the Hand of God in all things. Spurgeon seems to have had a very colourful life (see the introduction to his sermon: "Alive")!
