A sermon delivered by C.H. Spurgeon, Lord's day morning July 30th 1871. From time to time, in our own fellowship, we call upon the congregation to each pray for their own salvation. It can sound selfish, but is a command: "make your calling and election sure". Had Spurgeon lived in our day, he perhaps would have used the analogy of air travel. Oxygen masks fall from above us when the cabin depressurizes. We are told: "Fit our own mask, before helping someone else" Only when each of us is truly saved can we be of lasting spiritual benefit to others..
