Counterpoint — Jungian Psychology Meets Sufi Mysticism | Episode 2

Counterpoint — Jungian Psychology Meets Sufi Mysticism In this podcast series, Jungian psychoanalysts Murray Stein and Karin Jironet enter into a dialogue between two profound traditions of inner transformation: Jungian depth psychology and Sufi mysticism. In our Counterpoint conversations, Murray Stein speaks from the perspective of Jungian psychoanalysis and his long study of the works of Carl Gustav Jung. Karin Jironet represents the Sufi perspective, drawing on more than three decades of experience within the Sufi tradition and her study of the teachings of Hazrat Inayat Khan. Through this interplay, we hope to create something like a musical counterpoint: two distinct voices entering into conversation, each maintaining its integrity while opening the possibility of a third understanding for our time. In this first episode, the opening dialogue, we explore states and stages on the path of self-realization and individuation, reflecting on how these traditions describe the expansion of human consciousness. In the next episode, we will turn to methods. We have already touched on some here, but we will look more closely at the practices and disciplines that support the journey toward self-realization from the Sufi perspective and individuation from the Jungian perspective. This series offers a rare meeting of two traditions of transformation, inviting reflection on the deeper possibilities of human consciousness.
