La Calypso Restaurant à Carnac par Les Escapades de Petitrenaud
La Calypso Restaurant specializing in fish, lobster, and meats grilled over a wood fire. 158, rue du Pô 56340 Carnac 02 97 52 06 14 Closed Sunday evening and Monday. www.calypso-carnac.com If you enjoy the atmosphere of the oyster beds that line the streets of this charming village in the Pô region of Carnac, stop by La Calypso. Inside this typical Breton house, all white with granite-framed doors and windows, the restaurant comprises two dining rooms where owner Marc Brosolo works his magic between a large fireplace and a butcher's counter, its patina deep with age, laden with knives and everything needed to cook meats, fish, and lobsters over glowing embers. The chef offers 10 to 12 varieties of fish, depending on the catch from Etel, where he sources his fish, and serves them with Noirmoutier potatoes, small potatoes served in their skins. For dessert, regulars, willing to make the trip, can't resist the Calypso tart or the strawberries drizzled with orange juice and flambéed with Grand Marnier. WEST COAST. Just five minutes from the beaches of Carnac, it's around the large fireplace of this little fisherman's cottage that you can enjoy the Calypso's specialty: grilled fish! Turbot, brill, sole, red mullet, monkfish or scallop skewers are the stars of the show, accompanied by the highly sought-after "grenailles du Pô," small potatoes served in their skins. Meat lovers can still enjoy a superb ribeye steak... Others will savor the langoustine salad with ginger, grilled lobsters, or warm oysters. Head to the oyster beds of the Po River. A small fisherman's cottage nestled at the end of the Po cove, a few tables huddled around a large fireplace, and, in the middle, Marc Brosolo, the owner, presiding over the grill with an old butcher's block as his workbench, creating a sensation with his lobsters and fish grilled over a wood fire. La Calypso: simplicity and charm. Seafood platters, Tête de Moine cheese with chanterelle mushrooms, Calypso tart with flambéed apples. LE FIGARO MAGAZINE. You will be charmed by this atmosphere where simplicity rhymes with conviviality. Gourmets will not be disappointed.
