Didcot Railway Centre - Rivals Reunite May 2025
Didcot Railway Centre held an event to remember, reuniting their Castle Class No.4079 'Pendennis Castle' with the National Railway Museum's A3 Pacific No.60103 (4472) Flying Scotsman. These two locomotives have a long term history, going back 100years, when they first met at the British Empire Exhibition in 1925. Then during the 1970s both locomotives were owned by the late Sir William McAlpine and often were on shed together. Then again during the 1980s. Pendennis Castle was owned by Hamersley Iron in Australia whilst the Aus Steam '88 event was on. Flying Scotsman was invited to attend, providing the climax of the tour, reuniting the two locomotives again for a number of double headed runs.
