Funeral of Aidan McAnespie, Aughnacloy, Co Tyrone (23 February 1988)
The funeral and burial of the late Aidan McAnespie who was shot and murdered by British Crown Forces in Aughnacloy, Co Tyrone on Sunday 21st February 1988 whilst walking to a gaelic football match at Aghaloo GFC. Aidan's funeral took place on Tuesday 23rd February 1988 in St Mary's Church, Aughnacloy with burial afterwards at St Patrick's Church, Clara, Co Monaghan. The ceremony was officiated by Cardinal Tomas O'Fiaich, Primate of All Ireland and Archbishop of Armagh (who cut his visit to New York, USA short in order to be at the funeral) and Aghaloo P.P. Fr Seamus McManus.
