Our Favorite Native Plants for SoCal Gardens | Ceanothus 'Concha' - Concha Wild Lilac
Concha Ceanothus, a hybrid of two species, is a standout California native shrub favored for its mounding growth, narrow glossy green leaves, and vibrant cobalt-blue flowers. It's notably one of the easier Ceanothus varieties to grow in Southern California home gardens. It tolerates inland garden conditions better than many other Ceanothus. Ceanothus are important habitat plants for both butterflies and native pollinators. For best results in inland gardens, plant Concha Ceanothus either somewhere that receives morning sun and afternoon shade or dappled part-sun throughout the day. It will tolerate full sun in many gardens, but thrives with a bit more shelter. While it adapts to heavy soils better than other Ceanothus, but careful summer watering is essential for success.
