Our Favorite Native Plants for SoCal Gardens | Lilac Verbena - Verbena lilacina 'De La Mina'
Lilac Verbena has gained popularity as a top butterfly-attracting plant in Inland Empire gardens, thanks to its extended flowering period from spring to summer. Native to Cedros Island off Baja California, this loosely mounding perennial grows to 2-3 ft. tall and 3-4 ft. wide, occasionally wider. A favored cultivar, V. l. ‘De La Mina’, is known for its uniform shape and deep purple flowers. Thriving in sunny spots, it adapts well to various soil types with good drainage. Come fall, it can be pruned to manage its size and shape.
