Card Game é coisa de rico?

In this video, we discuss an aspect that doesn't always come up when talking about card games like Magic: The Gathering and Pokémon. These games weren't designed for the economic reality of those living in countries like Brazil. For the business to function, there's a whole ecosystem involving specialized stores, a secondary market, collecting, speculation, tournaments, and a consumption model based on constant releases and recurring purchases. It's a system that works much better in countries with higher purchasing power. Furthermore, we discuss how this model influences the community itself, creating notions of status, pressure to keep up with new collections, and the feeling of always needing the next expansion. It's important to note, however, that this isn't a video to tell you to abandon this hobby. Quite the opposite. Card games can be a lot of fun, help develop strategic thinking, and create friendships. The important thing is to understand how this market works in order to consume consciously, define a budget, and avoid the trap of believing you need to keep up with every new release.
