Dr. Sanjaya Satapathy is a Professor of Medicine at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra University, and Associate Chief of Hepatology and serves as the Medical Director of Liver Transplantation at the Northwell Health Center for Liver Diseases & Transplantation as well as the Program Director of Transplant Hepatology Fellowship at Northshore University Hospital/Northwell Health. Dr. Satapathy's expertise lies in the field of gastroenterology and hepatology, with a specific focus on Metabolic-Dysfunction Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD), hepatitis C, post-transplant outcomes, MASH-related complications, and frailty/sarcopenia. He is also a skilled advanced endoscopist proficient in techniques such as EUS (endoscopic ultrasound) and ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography). With an impressive publication record of over 180 peer-reviewed articles in prestigious journals, Dr. Satapathy's contributions to the scientific community have garnered significant recognition. He holds an h-Index of 41, and his work has accumulated over 7500 citations. Dr. Satapathy is triple board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine having trained in Internal Medicine from New York Medical College, Gastroenterology from North Shore-LIJ Hospital, and Transplant Hepatology from Mount Sinai Hospital. He also completed his MD in Internal Medicine from VSS Medical College, Burla, and a DM in Gastroenterology from GB Pant Hospital, New Delhi before his training in the USA. In addition to his medical qualifications, Dr. Satapathy holds a Master's in Epidemiology and Clinical Investigation from the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center, showcasing his dedication to research and evidence-based medicine. He has received numerous industry-sponsored clinical research grants, including grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Currently, Dr. Satapathy serves as the Editor in Chief for Translational Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Associate Editor of the Journal of Clinical and Transplant Hepatology, and on the International Advisory Board for the Indian Journal of Gastroenterology, Associate Editor of Hepatitis B Annual, and Chair of the Education Subcommittee for the Clinical Practice Special Interest Group of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. Recognized for his outstanding contributions, Dr. Satapathy was named a finalist for the Truly Rising Star Award sponsored by Northwell Health in 2021, and a finalist for the current year 2024 in the Truly Mentorship Award section. He has also been honored as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor for 2021 though 2025, further exemplifying his reputation as an accomplished medical professional.
