THE FALL OF ANGIE DEAR
The Fall Of Angie Dear The Fall Of Angie Dear is based on a true story, although the names and some details have been changed. One evening, a girl we knew gathered us all together in the local pub to announce that she had met a wealthy man and was leaving town with him for good. What followed was quite a performance. She told us how she had never really liked any of us, how much she hated living in our “one-horse town,” and how delighted she was to be leaving us all behind. Having delivered her farewell speech, she made a suitably dramatic exit to begin her wonderful new life. Unfortunately, her wealthy admirer turned out to be a conman who robbed her of everything. With nowhere else to go, Angie eventually returned to the same town and the same people she had so publicly insulted, forced to come back with her tail firmly between her legs. I always felt there was a song in that story. The Fall Of Angie Dear is about pride, misplaced trust and the uncomfortable experience of having to face the people you dismissed when life does not turn out quite as planned.
