DOOMED under a warm summer sky

Doomed (Under a Warm Summer Sky) is a song about Brian Jones, founder member of the Rolling Stones and one of the most distinctive musicians of the 1960s. Brian was a gifted multi-instrumentalist whose musical imagination played an important part in shaping the early sound of the band. Sadly, his increasing dependence on drink and drugs, together with the pressures and turmoil surrounding his life, led to a steady decline. By the time of his death in July 1969, at just 27 years old, he had already left the Rolling Stones and become an increasingly isolated and troubled figure. I wrote this song as a reflection on the tragedy of a talented young man whose life and career unravelled far too soon. The title, Under a Warm Summer Sky, deliberately contrasts the peaceful image of an English summer with the sadness of a life approaching its premature end.
