Voter registration: Opposition & observer examine abuse of attestation, other critical incidents

Gambia’s electoral authorities have launched a supplementary voter registration drive ahead of the December presidential election. However, the integrity of the voter roll is under intense scrutiny. Opposition parties and civil society groups have raised alarms over the alleged registration of minors and non-citizens, as well as the widespread abuse of the ‘attestation’ process. Are these concerns grounded in fact or political maneuvering? On this episode of Verified, I sit down with Yankuba Manjang of Election Watch— a local observation team organized by Peace Ambassadors— and Lamin Manneh of the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP). We critically examine the registration process so far, including reports of "critical incidents," the controversial involvement of Alkalolu and Seyfolu in partisan politics, and the systemic abuse of the attestation system.
