Carla Madeira published her first book at age 50 and became one of Brazil's most widely read writers. Translated into other languages, and author of three acclaimed novels (Everything is River, The Nature of the Bite, and Eve), she constructs narratives that inhabit the body before reaching the mind. In this episode of Janela Lateral, the premiere of the sixth season, Carla talks about her visceral writing, unafraid of polarities: the sacred and the profane, forgiveness and revenge, love and destruction. She recounts how her new novel, 'When,' was born amidst real pain and how fiction was the only place where that pain could fit.
