Ballroom didn't emerge from stages or academies. It arose from street corners, ballrooms, and the urgent need to exist with dignity in a world that insisted on denying it. Since the 1970s, in Harlem and the Bronx, a Black, Latino, and queer community has created its own rituals of glory: houses, categories, queens, legends. In this episode, the Window opens to this universe with two artists who not only dance the movement but build it in Minas Gerais with their own hands. Lázara dos Anjos is a transvestite, DJ, screenwriter, illustrator, and mother of the House of Império in Capítulo BH. Mayk is a multi-artist, researcher of urban dances, founder of the BallRoom Minas Gerais page and Kiki House of Capiva, recognized as Legendary in 2022. Together, they talk about the Old Way and Vogue Femme, about the battles and catwalks that become portals, about the houses of affection that welcome those whose blood family couldn't always receive. And about what it means to play ball here, now, on the streets of Belo Horizonte.
