"...and just as we have offered our hands when others' hands are insufficient, we must also offer our voices, our art, and our words to sustain. Creating to sustain... Sustaining those who sustain. Sustaining the spirit of those of us who still carry the fear etched on our skin. Sustaining those of us who were fortunate enough to remain standing and try to shake off the layers of pain that the country continues to demand from within. Sustaining those who pick up the pieces, those who are traveling toward the divide, and those for whom another divide opens up because they cannot be present and are seen as insufficient from the outside. Sustaining those who are losing everything and those who have hope of finding... Sustaining to remember that when the air is short, we can still breathe... 💔I cannot reverse the disaster with a poem, and it seems absurd to speak of art today. But I know firsthand what words save and how art is a refuge so that the heart does not explode alone... That is why my commitment will continue with concrete actions, but Also, in continuing to create spaces that sustain, heal, keep us ALIVE, and are home, refuge, and a voice.
