Papi, dollari e guerre: presentazione del libro di Massimo Franco

On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, in the Aula Magna of the Theological Faculty of Sardinia in Cagliari, the Bishop of Nuoro and Lanusei and Grand Chancellor of the Faculty, Monsignor Antonello Mura, met with journalist and Corriere della Sera columnist Massimo Franco for a public dialogue dedicated to the historical relations between the Catholic Church and the United States, specifically between the Vatican and the American administration. During the evening, Franco's latest book, "Popes, Dollars, and Wars: America's Power in the Vatican from the Taboos of the Past to Leo XIV," was presented. This volume traces over a century of relations between the Holy See and American Catholicism, encompassing geopolitical strategies, financial power, and ecclesial transformations. Through previously unpublished documents, testimonies, and historical reconstructions, the book analyzes the long journey that led to the election of Leo XIV, the first American pope, and the challenges facing a Church today called to confirm its moral and international role regardless of who leads the White House.
