According to The Domesday Book, Fulbrook once had a greater population than Burford. Now, it is a quaint village with around 400 inhabitants. While agriculture was once the mainstay, many residents commute to nearby Burford, Witney, Oxford, or even London for work. The historic Church of St. James the Great, is a Norman church with traces of earlier Saxon work. The north aisle was added around 1200, and the porch in the late 13th century. There is an ancient English Yew tree in the churchyard, with a girth of over 19 feet, estimated to be nearly 1000 years old.
