Route 66 Stargate, musical road, and more! Springfield MO

Route 66 turns 100, and we’re in the Birthplace of the Mother Road to see some of the biggest new additions, exhibits, and landmarks celebrating the centennial! This time we're exploring Springfield, Missouri - where Route 66 was officially named in 1926 - and checking out the brand new Queen's Gate 66 sculpture (which I immediately nicknamed the Route 66 Stargate), the new Musical Road installation, Route 66 centennial art projects, and the growing collection of Route 66 attractions appearing across the city for the highway's 100th anniversary. The massive Queen's Gate monument was unveiled as part of Springfield's Route 66 Centennial kickoff celebrations and stands nearly 20 feet tall and 32 feet wide. We also visit the excellent History Museum on the Square to see its Route 66 exhibits and artifacts, stop by the historic Fox Theatre where Elvis Presley famously performed during the 1950s, check out the legendary Best Western Route 66 Rail Haven, and take a look at some of the newest Route 66-themed installations appearing around town as Springfield prepares for the centennial celebration. From roadside history and neon nostalgia to giant public art and singing pavement, Springfield is making a serious case for being one of the most important stops anywhere on Route 66 in 2026.
