Gettysburg Monuments Explained: Are They in the Right Place?

In this episode of Monuments Monday, historian Tim Smith addresses one of the most frequently asked Gettysburg questions — are you sure that's where that unit was positioned during the battle? The answer is yes, and no. The position of monuments at Gettysburg National Military Park can be flawed. Some soldiers struggled to remember exactly where they fought, certain monuments moved based on the land and who owned it, and others had to be placed according to interpretation needs. Tim explains this and more in today's episode! --- This video is made possible by the generous support of Donald Holman. --- Check out the full Monuments Monday playlist here:    • Monuments Monday   --- Historian: Tim Smith Camera Operator: Maria Lynn Video Editor: Mary Grace Kauffman --- Visit us in-person at Gettysburg Beyond the Battle Museum, voted "Best New Museum" by USA TODAY readers and a 2026 Traveler's Choice Winner on TripAdvisor, at 625 Biglerville Road, just north of Gettysburg.
