Moveable Bridges
12.19.2014: Providence had many bridges that moved either by pivoting or drawing up to share access between boat and land travel. The last swing bridge that remains is the Point Street Bridge, which was last opened for water traffic in 1959. The turntable mechanism has been disabled effectively making the bridge a stationary span. The era of these moveable bridges is long gone but remnants are still visible, notably the Seekonk River Draw Bridge. Providence Journal video by Sandor Bodo
