Turning Trash Pine Logs Into Beautiful Handcrafted Beams!

What started as a relaxing Saturday quickly turned into another day at the sawmill when we got a call for a last-minute order of rustic pine beams. The customer needed five 4x8x10 pine beams, and since it was a small order, I figured it would be a good opportunity to clean up a few logs from the yard and put a little extra money in our pockets. The original plan was to find a couple of logs large enough to cut 8x8 cants and split them down the middle, but things didn’t quite go as planned. The logs were a little smaller than expected, so we ended up cutting five separate logs to produce the beams. In the end, that may have been the better option anyway. By center-cutting each beam from its own log, we were able to produce stronger, higher-quality beams with less chance of future warping. This video is also a little different than our normal uploads. There’s no background music, very little editing, and plenty of real sawmill sounds. Just a raw, unfiltered day of sawmilling on the Norwood LM30 as we turn pine logs into finished rustic beams ready for pickup.
